Nerja: History, Magic & Tradition
Discover the soul of the Costa del Sol, from prehistoric caves to the Balcón de Europa.
A Walk Through History
Nerja, historically known as 'Narixa' (abundant spring) by the Moors, has roots dating back to the Paleolithic era. Its modern icon, however, was born after the great earthquake of 1884. King Alfonso XII visited the ruins, stepped onto the cliff, and declared, 'This is the Balcony of Europe'. Since then, this promenade has been the beating heart of our town.

The Underground Cathedral
In 1959, five local boys chasing bats stumbled upon a hidden wonder: The Nerja Caves. Home to the world's largest stalactite and cave paintings dating back 42,000 years, this natural monument is one of Spain's most visited treasures.

Beaches & Maro Cliffs
Unlike the western coast, Nerja offers a wilder shoreline. From the vibrant Burriana Beach to the pristine coves of the Maro-Cerro Gordo Natural Park, our crystal-clear waters are a paradise for diving and kayaking.
Mediterranean Flavor
Our cuisine is born from the sea and the soil. Famous for sardine 'espetos', 'ajoblanco' soup, and thanks to our subtropical microclimate, we produce Europe's finest avocados and mangoes. At Dvinos, we pay tribute to this culinary richness every day.
